Sandisk has dominated recent headlines due to its meteoric stock performance, amidst a major divestiture by its former parent company, Western Digital. It is now a fully independent "pure-play" flash memory company.
Its projected to have stellar results in the next few years with sales growth pf 106% and 66% over the next couple of years based on MarketSmith data.

It has been recently in the news because of an article by Citron that argued that Sandisk is focussed on a commodity product (NAND flash) vulnerable to aggressive competition. Their view was that SNDK doesnt have a moat as compared to a NVDIA and risks aggresive competion from the likes of Samsung.
Sandisk is not new, having been founded in 1988 and recently established as an independent company following its 2025 spinoff from Western Digital. Sandisk has created a name for itself in the memory storage space.
Sandisk is a dominant force in the NAND flash memory industry. Sandisk powers the microSD card in your smartphone as also the high-performance drives behind the massive data centres. Sandisk's foray into the area of AI-driven demand for flash storage has led to Sandisk’s stock (SNDK) rising roughly 1,300% since its 2025 spinoff.
Sandisk has positioned itself in the amalgamation of consumer, client and the cloud addressing the needs for personal memory storage, cloud and hyperscaler memory needs and enterprise storage needs.
It has products that cater to the following areas of the flash memory storage industry:
1. Consumer Electronics & Mobile Storage
Sandisk is most famous for its retail storage products that meets the need of everyday people. They manufacture the memory cards used to expand the storage of smartphones, tablets, and handheld gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch. Their microSD and SD card ranges are industry standards for reliability and speed.

2. Solutions for Professional Creators
For photographers and videographers, Sandisk provides high-end media capable of handling massive data loads. Their CFexpress cards allow for the recording of raw 8K video, while their Portable SSDs offer weather-resistant storage for editors working in the field.
3. Enterprise & AI Infrastructure
Beyond consumer gadgets, Sandisk is a major player in the "Enterprise SSD" (eSSD) market. They provide high-capacity storage solutions for "hyperscalers"—the giant companies that run the cloud.
Following their 2025 transition to an independent entity, Sandisk has focused heavily on AI-optimised storage. Their high-bandwidth flash technology is designed to feed data to AI processors at incredible speeds, supporting the massive computational needs of modern machine learning.
4. USB and Everyday Backup
Sandisk continues to innovate in the portable drive space. Their Dual Drive technology allows users to bridge the gap between different devices, featuring both USB-C and USB-A connectors on a single stick to move files easily between a laptop and a modern smartphone.
5. Embedded Technology
Sandisk produces embedded flash memory (like e.MMC and UFS) that is built directly into the motherboards of cars, smart home devices, and industrial machinery, ensuring these systems boot up quickly and store critical operational data securely.
Memory needs is expected to explode exponentially due to the massive storage needs for AI workloads in datacenters, edge devices and embedded products. Sandisk's recent hype is all connected to the growing storage needs aligned to the massive growth expected in AI.
